Freedon of Information Act
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a Federal freedom of information law that requires the full or partial disclosure of certain information from Government Agencies, Private and public sectors, Government parastatals, Federal civil services etc. The Nigeria’s freedom of information Act was signed into law on the 28th of May, 2011 by former Present Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
OBJECTIVE OF FOI
- To make the public records and information of an agency easily accessed .
- To protect public records and information to the extent to the extent consistent public interest and protection of personal privacy
- To protect serving public officers from adverse consequences for disclosing certain kind of official information without authorisation.
HOW TO GET ACCESS TO PUBLIC RECORDS AND INFORMATION
To get access to public records and information of our agency under the FOI act, a request must be made by written letter or by sending an email.
The request must describe clearly the information sought for and also state the method of receiving the information.
