Report on World Malaria Day 2026 Celebration
The Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, in conjunction with the Medical Parasitology Department, successfully commemorated World Malaria Day 2026 with a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness and combating malaria within the community.
The event, held on Friday, 24th April 2026, featured several health-focused interventions. Members of the public benefited from free malaria testing, distribution of antimalarial medications, and provision of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, all geared towards prevention and early treatment of the disease.
A road walk also formed a key part of the commemoration, commencing at Onopa Junction at 8:00 AM and drawing participation from staff, stakeholders, and community members. The walk ended at the Medical Laboratory Services Car Park within the hospital premises, reinforcing public awareness on malaria prevention and control.
The initiative highlighted the Centre’s continued commitment to improving public health and reducing the burden of malaria in the region.
