WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK
Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa marked World Glaucoma Week 2026 with a week-long eye health campaign from March 9–13, 2026 to raise awareness about glaucoma and promote early detection.
The program included free glaucoma screening for hospital staff and the general public, aiming to identify the disease early since glaucoma often develops without noticeable symptoms and can lead to irreversible blindness.
The hospital also conducted radio awareness programs on Radio Bayelsa and People’s FM Yenagoa, where medical experts discussed risk factors, prevention, and treatment.
Activities began with a community sensitization rally and road walk in Yenagoa to encourage residents to get screened.
The campaign aimed to educate the public, improve access to eye screening, and prevent blindness through early detection of glaucoma.
